About us

we

We are two people who combine complementary ideas to solve really cool problems. We bring together a passion for technology and a deep understanding of people in order to create systems that benefit from the strengths of both. We don't like complicated, ugly, and useless things that cause frustration. We love simple, beautiful, and effective things that make life better, easier, more fun. We like the idea of connecting people together through technology, but in ways that enhance and improve regular interaction too. We think about things a lot. About how to make them better, mostly. But also how to make them different and interesting. What kind of things do we think about? Things like web sites and applications, business, mobile tech, why people do things, information (how to get it, store it, process it, access it, and display it), collaborative cognition, marketing, living spaces, making things in hardware/making things in software, efficient processes, video, virtual presence, authenticity, viral solutions, and interesting problems.

Looking for a different perspective on an interesting problem? Let us think about it

she

Stephanie's passion is for web design; not just design that looks cool, but design that also does amazing things. Form and function are two sides of the coin she keeps in her pocket, so she creates sites that get things done, but also look great doing it. She has been pursuing efficiency and beauty in web design for over a decade both personally and professionally, and starting next Fall will be pursuing it academically at the UC Berkeley Information Science grad program. As a geek par excellence, she has a variety of technology interests: ambient information, mobile devices and systems, computer-mediated interaction, and personal lifestreaming. All of it comes together in her tool of choice: the Drupal content management system, a web application environment that allows her (well, anyone) to quickly build sophisticated, powerful, and robust dynamic websites. At Collective Mind, she is a specialist in fast, focused, practical, tactical, and results-oriented.

he

Christopher was born to solve big problems. When he's not mulling over alternative world economies or co-housing plans, he enjoys solving smaller problems involving inefficiencies of design, technologies, and/or humans. Before deciding that the 9-to-5 world wasn't his style, he led a web development team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Education Research that created academic and research-focused sites using a variety of web application technologies. He lives to connect people and come up with clever web-based solutions. He also has the magic touch for making web sites and obscure browser bugs bend to his will. Christopher is king of both the big picture and the little details that take web technology from "great" to "amazing".
